An Introduction to Dianabol – What You Need to Know
Methandrostenolone or Methandienone is Dianabol’s scientific name. The first synthesized versions were produced by CIBA Laboratories in Basel, Switzerland. In 1957, CIBA filed for a patent in the United States.
Upon the approval of the patent, CIBA began marketing Methandrostenolone under the name Dianabol. Dianabol was originally approved and marketed for the treatment of hypogonadism. It was only in the 1960s and 1970s when Dianabol became very popular among bodybuilders because of its potency to help build muscle mass.
How does it Work?
Dianabol is basically a methylated carbon 17-Alpha (structurally). Because of its structure, Dianabol remains active and potent even when it’s administered orally. Without this unique structure of Dianabol, it’s near impossible for any anabolic steroid to survive metabolism while it goes through the liver.
Aside from that, Dianabol comes with a double bond between carbon atoms one and two. This unique feature causes it to be milder in androgenic strength when compared to testosterone. The double bond also limits Dianabol’s capacity to bind to androgen receptors found in different parts of the body. It’s also this double bond that gives it a longer half-life compared to testosterone.
An additional benefit of Dianabol’s structure is that it does not bind very well to binding proteins. There are certain types of protein that when they bind to sex hormones (e.g. estrogen and testosterone), they will render the sex hormones inactive. When this happens, the sex hormones will simply float in the bloodstream and are essentially useless. Keep in mind that testosterone is the parent hormone of Dianabol. This means that because of Dianabol’s structure, these binding proteins are not able to bind well.
When all these features combine, it’s easy to see why Dianabol is a very potent anabolic steroid.
Anabolic Rating Score
Dianabol’s anabolic rating is significantly higher when you compare it to its parent hormone, which is testosterone. The testosterone hormone has an anabolic rating of 100, while Dianabol has an anabolic rating of 210.
Is it for Beginners or Advanced Users?
Dianabol can be used by beginners and advanced users. In fact, Dianabol is one of the most recommended hormones for users that are starting to explore the world of anabolic androgenic steroids (AAS).
Advanced users usually stack Dianabol with another steroid, usually an injectable one.
Typical Dianabol Dosage
In most cases, users tend to stick to 30 mg per day. This is the recommended dose for beginners, intermediate and advanced users. However, this is only “recommended” as some advanced users choose to increase the dosage just as long as Dianabol is used with another drug that reduces the side-effects. Even then, going above 70 mg per day is highly inadvisable if you are an advanced user.
For those who are already experienced in using AAS, it’s usually the other stacked hormones that are increased in dosage while Dianabol is kept at 20-30 mg per day.
Another reason why Dianabol’s dosage should not be increased is that higher dosages can damage the liver.
Dianabol has a pretty straightforward effect. It accelerates strength and muscle gain. However, keep in mind that some types of athletes don’t use Dianabol because it tends to increase water retention.
Possible Dianabol Side Effects
Dianabol side effects vary from one user to another. However, the most common variable is water retention and bloating. Gynecomastia follows the previous two in occurrence.
The most concerning side-effect of Dianabol is the stress it causes to the hepatic system, especially on the liver. Other side effects may also include benign prostatic hyperplasia, male pattern baldness, oily skin, and acne.
Having no libido is also a symptom of system shut down caused by Dianabol use. Other symptoms may also include tiredness and lethargy.
Will it Cause Water Retention?
The short answer is yes. In fact, it’s one of the most commonly known side-effects of Dianabol.
Is it Harsh on the Liver?
One of the reasons why Dianabol can be administered orally is because of its structure. The structure itself allows it to pass through the liver without being metabolized. Here’s the problem: the liver does not know that you don’t want it metabolized. Hence, the liver works extra hard in an attempt to metabolize Dianabol.
Just like any system, if it’s stressed too much, it will eventually break down. In this case, liver lesions may start to appear. Also, liver failure is not uncommon for Dianabol abusers.
How Harsh Can it be to my Hair if I am Predisposed to Hair Loss?
This largely depends on the user’s genes and lifestyle. However, one of the more usual side-effects of Dianabol is male pattern baldness. Hence, if you are already predisposed to hair loss, you are increasing your risk with this steroid.
What Steroids Stack Well with Dianabol?
Dianabol stacks well with testosterone. Dianabol and Deca Durabolin is also another popular stack as well as Anadrol and Dianabol. It’s also best that you use a liver defense drug to lessen the damage of Dianabol.
Arimidex is commonly used in conjunction with Dianabol. It’s not really for stacking, but it minimizes the effects of bloating brought by this steroid.
How Should Dianabol be Administered?
Dianabol can be administered through injections. However, taking it orally is the most preferred form of administration. In fact, Dianabol is the solution to the problem of introducing a hormone that can survive liver metabolism. Hence, its main purpose is for oral administration.
Dianabol PCT Advice
If you want to keep as much of your gains as possible, you have to do PCT if you are using any steroid.
When it comes to PCT, the most recommended route is going for Nolvadex at 40 mg per day for two weeks. Then, follow this with another two weeks of Nolvadex at 20 mg per day.
Clomid is another popular PCT drug for Dianabol.
What is it Suited For?
Dianabol is mainly used for gaining mass or bulking. It’s not advised for other phases, especially for cutting because of its water retention side effect.
Dianabol Half-Life Information
It’s around 4.5 hours to 6 hours, so splitting your daily dosages throughout the day is recommended for best results.
Can Women use Dianabol?
Dianabol is not recommended for women as it lowers estrogen and increases testosterone levels. Women using Dianabol may risk virilization. In other words, it may increase body hair, disrupted menstrual cycle, shrink breast tissue and may exhibit a more masculine figure.
Will it Increase my Aggression?
Dianabol is reported to increase aggression levels. But this is user dependent as it is different from one user to the other.
Laws in the UK
In the UK, Dianabol is classified under Class C controlled substance. This basically means that you won’t get into trouble if you use it yourself but it’s illegal for you to sell or supply it to others.
